Apparatus-based rehabilitation of the lower extremities and trunk (orthoses)
The parapodium is an effective aid that helps avoid total immobilization in the event of illness or serious injury to the musculoskeletal system. It is designed to repair problem areas of the body and to activate and correct the function of the damaged joint or limb.
This complex construction is necessary to relieve and support sick, injured or operated hands or feet. One type of orthosis is the Parapod. It helps to achieve an upright position, move independently and perform gymnastic exercises. The exercises stimulate the nervous, muscular and skeletal systems.
Depending on the modification of the parapodium, the price of the device for the lower limbs and torso varies:
● Dynamic PD and PD NEW.
Mobile PJM, PJMP and Combo PJMC.
● Static PST.
Positive effects of using the Parapod:
● Elimination of pressure ulcers, spasticity;
Improving blood supply and nutrition of connective tissue;
strengthening of the skeletal system;
Restoration of muscle tone, etc.
And, most importantly, the patient gains more independent mobility. The person is able to stand on their feet and see the world from their own height. As a result, his psycho-emotional well-being improves.
The main stages of rehabilitation with orthoses – lower limbs and trunk
It is important to remember that a specialist should be consulted before any activity.
A specific rehabilitation program has been developed, which is essential for the body to adapt.
In the first phase, the person learns how to properly get up from the wheelchair by holding onto the railing. The exercise takes 1 minute. The movement is best carried out in the presence of an assistant. It is important to spend a little extra time in the Parapod every day to achieve positive results.
In the second phase, you learn to maintain balance and shift your center of gravity by tilting your body from side to side. One minute of training alternates with one minute of rest.
In the third stage, you make your first attempts at movement and carry out active arm and leg movements. This takes up to 30 minutes.
At the end, allow yourself enough time to walk around and return to the starting position.
The exercises are performed daily: at least three approaches per day are recommended.
It is mandatory to be accompanied by an instructor at all steps.
Further information about the device can be found on the Homepage.
What is an Ilizarov apparatus?
An Ilizarov brace is a compression-distraction device used to rigidly immobilize bones by inserting special spokes or rods attached to a rod-shaped structure on the outside of the bone.
In its original form, the bracket was a prefabricated steel fixation. To fix the bone in the correct position, rigid spokes were used, which were inserted into the bone tissue and attached to flat brackets placed around the limb.
Despite the excellent wearing properties, this design had a number of disadvantages. First of all, it was bulky, which made it difficult to walk with the device.
To make the Ilizarov apparatus easier to wear, titanium was used instead of steel. The spokes were replaced by rods and the rings by triangular or semicircular elements. All this led to a reduction in the weight of the device, but the principle of operation remained the same.
In 2019, researchers at the Ilizarov Russian Scientific Center for Reconstructive Traumatology and Orthopedics published a paper on spinal design. GA Ilizarov published a paper concluding that the device is clinically highly effective.
Indications for use
- Severe fractures to fix bone fragments in the correct position;
- need to lengthen the leg;
- Various deformities of limbs and other body parts.
Many people are interested in how long you have to wear an Ilizarov brace and how long it takes to achieve the desired result. The duration of wearing the orthosis is different for each patient. It depends on the specific task to be accomplished. For example, if the bone of the lower limb is broken, the device is worn for up to 4-5 months, and if the limb is lengthened - up to 7-8 months.
Operating modes of the Ormed Moto device
Passive. Suitable for relaxation and regulation of muscle tone, for working on the joints and for mobilization after long breaks.
Active. Strengthens muscles and improves strength, coordination and endurance as well as the respiratory and cardiovascular systems.
Supportive training function. The device's control system automatically adjusts the speed according to the user's capabilities.
Isokinetic mode function. The device automatically adjusts the intensity of the workout to the user's abilities.
Advantages of the Ormed Moto
Ergometer mode possible. Bicycle ergometry is primarily used to detect myocardial ischemia, rhythm and conduction disorders during exercise, and to assess physical performance and blood pressure response to exercise.
Electronic adjustment of the device to the patient. Individual settings and all training parameters are saved. RFID chip cards are used to identify the patient.
Comprehensive software with extensive functions. Load settings can be adjusted individually for each user. Automatic switching between active and passive modes depending on the user's activity. Stiffness control (at the beginning, middle and end of training).
Biofeedback. Display of training parameters and results. Detection of spastic conditions with the ability to adjust the level. Selection of the direction of rotation with activated spasticity protection.
Simple and user-friendly operation. Intuitive interface, easy change of training parameters via touchscreen display.
Assistance function for positioning the limbs. Places pedals and handles in a patient-friendly position before and after exercise to ensure correct positioning of legs and arms.
16 integrated training programs. Ability to customize preset programs and create your own workouts.
Motivational games. Add variety to long training sessions and continue to motivate your patients, which is particularly important in rehabilitation.
Everything you need is included in the set. The basic equipment includes: neoprene cuffs to secure the hands during training; removable vertical and horizontal supports for upper limbs; Ankle, shin and wheelchair straps. Additional options: patient chip card for user identification, heart rate monitor.
