Treatment of clubfoot in adults

The severity of the foot deformity depends on the severity of the disease:

Foot surgery – surgical treatment of transverse flat feet

This foot disease with a significant widening and flattening of the forefoot is referred to as transverse flatfoot. It is characterized by a crooked first toe, heavy feet, corns, and occasional pain in the metatarsophalangeal joints. Transverse flatfoot is often typical for women over 40 years of age, while it is rare in men (about 20 times less common than in women) and only occurs at an older age. Cases of transverse flat feet in adolescents and children are considered exceptions.

  • Wearing uncomfortable narrow or high-heeled shoes;
  • Regular standing on your feet for a long time;
  • overweight;
  • Previous trauma to the lower limbs.

Metabolic abnormalities, manifested by a disturbed calcium-phosphorus balance, also contribute to the development of transverse flatfoot.

Symptoms of transverse flatfoot

For those affected, transverse flat feet manifest themselves as significant pain in the legs. The pain increases in the area of the first and second toes. After standing on your feet for a long time, there is swelling of the limbs, a feeling of heaviness and a burning pain in the muscles.

The foot is visually widened, a spherical proliferation (valgus deformity) forms on the outside of the big toe, stubborn corns and calluses appear on the forefoot and the phalanxes of the toes are difficult to move. Inadequate treatment contributes to hammer toe curvature of the second and third toes.

Palpation of the affected area causes pain.

causes

Congenital strabismus develops during the fetal period.

Acquired strabismus is caused by the following diseases:

  • significant loss of vision in one eye, resulting in the retinal image no longer being projected onto the central nervous system and the brain gradually no longer using that eye due to its uselessness,
  • Damage to the eye nerves as a result of infections, trauma, tumors, bleeding, systemic diseases (diabetes),
  • Damage to the eye muscles as a result of trauma, myasthenia gravis,
  • Functional disorders as a result of stress, anxiety, psychological disorders (conversion disorders).

symptoms

A patient with strabismus complains of visual disturbances. This manifests itself in the form of diplopia (double vision), as binocular vision is not possible if the visual axes are not parallel because the images from the retinas of the two eyes do not match.

Another common complaint is reduced visual acuity in the deviating eye, which can be both a cause and a consequence of squinting.

In addition, all of these unpleasant vision problems can cause headaches and dizziness, asymmetrical neck muscle tension due to constantly trying to reposition the head to see more clearly, etc.
