You can now create a block, e.g. Place a screwdriver pen, for example, on the heel, grab the screw head with the side pliers and easily remove the pen from the heel.

The heel of the shoe wears out
High-heeled shoes have permanently established themselves in fashion and conquered millions of women around the world. Eye-catching footwear has become an indispensable part of the wardrobe today. However, it also happens that high heels are very uncomfortable for the wearers. In this case, there is a solution: reduce the height of the heels in the workshop.
The heel of boots, like any other footwear, can be shortened. However, note that with boots its height will be shortened by 10 % of the total height. For example, if the heel was 10 cm high, it must be shortened to 9 cm and under no circumstances should it be higher. This is directly related to the length of the paragraph.
It should be noted that you should definitely find out about all the intricacies of height reduction from a workshop and, of course, find a craftsman who has already coped with a similar task.
Arguments for'
If walking in high heels is very uncomfortable, they can be shortened quickly either in a workshop or yourself if you have the right tools. They should be cut when there is a real need:
- The stiletto heel is very high and therefore difficult to walk on.
- The heel is loose or partially cracked. In addition, the heels of some shoes wear out over time. And when shortened, the shoes regain their aesthetic appearance.
- Unsteadiness when walking and fear of falling or stumbling. Of course, there are also very high stilettos that are higher than 10 centimeters, but not every woman can walk in them.
- Sometimes there are moments like manufacturing defects. For example, some types of shoes are not comfortable to wear at all. This may be due to incorrect model construction. In this case, your best bet is to either return the shoe or have it remade.
Can paragraph be shortened at home?
You can shorten your shoes at home. First, the old paragraph must be removed. Sometimes there are horizontal stripes on the sole that can be used to cut out the heel.
IMPORTANT: The key to shortening paragraphs is symmetry. You need to make sure that both pairs of shoes are the same size. Even the smallest difference will be noticeable and visually noticeable.
Before reducing the height of your shoes, you should read the recommendations of experienced professionals and weigh the pros and cons of the procedure. We hope this article helps you make the right decision.
What to do if your heel is chipped
If you have problems with your shoes, the easiest solution is to take a pair to a repair shop. He will not only remove the scratches in the heel, but also replace it completely if necessary. However, if for some reason you cannot visit a repairman, you can also repair the shoes yourself.
On shoes
A scratch can partially expose the white border of the entire paragraph. This doesn't look very attractive and immediately catches the eye. The first thing you need to do is straighten and glue the edge so that it does not fester further. Then you can cover the scratch with improvised means.
- Permanent marker. This wonderful marker sticks well and, most importantly, does not wash off when it comes into contact with water.
- nail polish. Can only cover small damaged areas as the composition is not very uniform.
- Acrylic. Typically purchased as a spray or a traditional version applied with a watercolor brush. It lasts a long time, is even and dries quickly. If the heel is not black, buy white paint and a paste. The mixtures are mixed to the desired shade and then applied.
- Car paint. This is a good alternative to acrylic paint and can be purchased anywhere.
Before painting the heel, you must wash it, dry it thoroughly and degrease it with a solvent. To prevent the shoe from getting dirty, wrap it in a plastic bag. If no solvent is available, paint remover will suffice.
The paint must not be used indoors. The respiratory tract must be protected with a respiratory mask or at least a medical bandage.
In shoes
These can be renewed in the same way as the shoes. But if you try a little harder and get creative, you can solve the problem in an original way.
Repair problems depending on the material
The type of repair depends very much on the material from which the shoes are made. There is no patent recipe for preparing leather, suede or patent leather shoes.
Scratches on patent leather heels
Lacquered leather can be treated with petroleum jelly and polished with a soft cloth to minimize visible scratches. Larger scratches can be painted over with acrylic or nail polish and then varnished with a clear varnish.
Scratched leather heel.
Scratches or abrasions on thin leather shoes can be repaired as follows:
- Gently heat the damaged area with a hairdryer to soften the material;
- Then smooth it out;
- Apply BF-2 glue to the damaged area and to the back of the leather;
- Gently pull the skin and press it firmly.
- Remove adhesive residue with a damp cloth and cover the scratched areas with a marker, varnish or paint.
Tighten the leather material carefully to avoid creating new holes.
Removable suede heel
Scratches on suede can be repaired using fine sandpaper, salt, and a stiff eraser by simply rubbing the area. If varnishing is required, it should be colored with a special paste for suede.
The chamois leather should be wiped with a cloth moistened with ammonia before use.
There are many ways to remove scratches in shoes, but if you cannot do it yourself, you can use special pads that are produced by many companies. As a last resort, a professional cobbler can help.
Which materials are used?
The main materials used to make shoe pads are silicone, plastic, polyurethane and polyvinyl chloride. Externally, heels made from different raw materials can hardly be distinguished from one another. They only differ in their physical and chemical properties.
Polyvinyl chloride is the least resistant material. However, it is the cheapest option. Experienced athletes believe that the only advantage of PVC heels is their transparency.
Polyurethane is a durable material. However, it requires great precision in manufacturing. They also have a yellowish color.
Silicone is a hard and flexible material. It is able to regulate surface adhesion and protects against moisture penetration. It is a dielectric and retains its physical properties even with fluctuations in temperature and humidity. It is non-toxic. The cost of silicone heels is low. Wacker's silicone protection pads are the best products. They are characterized by their high abrasion resistance, hardness and flexibility.
Why use heel pads?
The main function of the heel pad is to protect expensive dance shoes from premature wear and reduce the risk of heel chipping.
Other product features include:
- Enlargement of the support surface;
- Reducing the load on the athlete's legs;
- reducing the risk of injury;
- Protecting the dance floor from damage;
- Increasing the friction force of the shoes on the dance floor, which increases the stability of the participant.
At official dance tournaments it is strictly forbidden to enter the dance floor without heel protectors.
Choosing the right dance accessories is a complicated matter. It is almost impossible to determine the material of a heel guard based on its appearance. Experienced dancers recommend only buying heel protectors from suppliers who officially specialize in dance shoes and other accessories for ballroom dancing.

Preparing paragraphs for paragraph assembly.
To make a heel, you need to trace the outline of the heel onto a polyurethane or rubber sheet. To do this, place the heel of the shoe on the workpiece and trace the circumference with a marker or ballpoint pen.
The shape of the right and left heels is usually different, which you need to take into account when cutting the workpiece. You can also trace the worn heel with a pen, but I prefer to draw the heel.
After marking, the paragraph must be cut. Polyurethane can be cut with a sharp knife, although the blade should be moistened with water to help it glide better. However, polyurethane is very difficult to cut with a knife and I prefer to cut it with a jigsaw and a wood file. Polyurethane is easy to saw with a jigsaw.
For cutting, the marked plate is clamped in a vice. After sawing a few millimeters, the panel is pulled back by hand so that the jigsaw file is not clamped. The lock can then be filed down relatively quickly. Sawing should be done along the outside of the line, leaving a margin. The protruding portion of the heel pad can then be sanded down with a scouring board or cut off with a knife.
The new heels are ready and can now be attached to the heels of the shoes. Beforehand, you should prepare the heels for nail installation.
Preparing heels for nail assembly
If you look at the photo above, you probably noticed how the heels look after removing the nails. The flat surface is almost full of holes. This raises the question of how to attach the new nail tips.
The answer is simple: you insert wooden pins into the mounting holes of the plastic tips. The mortise holes are usually 5 mm in diameter and 10-15 mm deep. First, measure the depth. If it is less than 10 mm, use a drill to drill at the base of the step to a depth of 15-20 mm.
When drilling with an electric drill, be careful that the drill bit 'drags' on the soft material of the shoulder and the depth of the hole is greater than necessary. I usually carry out this process by hand by clamping the drill in a special drill chuck.
The dowels in the shoulders for mounting the nabobs can be made from any piece of wood by sawing off the desired length and using a knife to knock out a piece with the desired diameter. You can also use ready-made dowels, e.g. B. Japanese wooden sticks have a good diameter.
They just need to be sawn into pieces of the right length. If the stick is too thick, you can cut it off with a knife. When the sticks are ready, they can be inserted into the holes in the heels. The diameter of the sticks should be chosen so that they fit well, but the diameter of the sticks should not be much larger than the holes in the heel, otherwise the heel could break when the sticks are hammered in. The plugs should not protrude above the level of the heel surface, but should be slightly recessed.

Coloring plastic heels at home
Have you recently bought nice black shoes with plastic heels, but they quickly fell into disrepair? Unfortunately, this is a situation that many people are familiar with as the black coating wears off over time and the plastic base shows through. However, the shoes themselves are intact, and it's a shame to throw them away.
At home you can use spray paint or regular paint. Here are some ways how to properly paint black heels on shoes at home:
- First option. Purchase a small can of black acrylic paint and a brush to apply the paint to the heels.
- Second option. Take a nail polish, also black. First degrease the surface and then apply the nail polish with the brush. You can use regular cologne or alcohol to wipe the surface.
- Third option. If the hairpin is very high, it is better not to paint it, but to cover it with leather.
Decorate
When restoring shoes or boots with your own hands, it is sometimes appropriate to complement the painting with decoration, for example, gluing small rhinestones to the heel. After the second layer of paint, this can be done by pressing the flat bases of the crystals against the adhesive layer. If the crystals are very small (no more than 1 mm), the dried heel is partially covered with a layer of varnish (it is better to take a clear varnish). The rhinestones are then scattered or dipped into the painted surface. The rest of the sequins then come off. When the surface is dry, protect the decorative part with a layer of clear varnish.
Original and always fashionable: wedge heels and solid heels with denim trim look great with jeans. Among the unfashionable elements you can also find a piece of fabric. The pattern for the heel can be made with painter's tape that is stuck all around.
Cut the tape down to the plastic under the soles and gently flatten the paper. Transfer the pattern to the fabric, cut out the pieces and glue them to the heels. Glue the seams at the base and tuck them neatly under the heel tabs.
Decorate the heels with your hand.
A hand-painted heel is a trendy, modern decoration. You can design the pattern yourself or use stencils. After applying the base color with a brush or sponge, the heels are painted with flowers, lines or geometric patterns, depending on your personal taste. When choosing the shade of the finish, it is recommended to use 1-2 colors that match the color of the leather of the shoes or boots.

Repairing Paper-Covered Paragraphs
The material costs for producing quality shoes are increasing every year. Some manufacturers often skimp on product components. If you find that your paragraphs are made of paper, don't worry.
If the back of an expensive shoe has lost its appearance and has scuffs and stains, it is possible to save it. To restore your favorite shoe, you need the necessary tools: a simple nail file, a lint-free hard cloth, solvent, a hair dryer and paint.
- Gently heat the heel area with the hairdryer and remove the paper.
- Beforehand, clean the surface carefully with a cloth soaked in alcohol or another solvent.
- Paint the desired area with acrylic paint in 2-3 layers.
- Allow the paint to cure in a dry place for several hours.
How to restore completely damaged paragraphs?
In fact, poor manufacturers and expensive are not the only problems that arise. Very often shoes and their heels are damaged by external factors. For example, the heels can be nibbled on by a cat or bitten by a dog. If throwing away new shoes with completely ruined heels is unfortunate, something needs to be done.
The repair includes the following steps:
- Peel off the insole.
- Remove the screws.
- Loosen the heel.
- Open the paragraph.
- Peel off the old paint.
- Paint over any visible defects with epoxy paint.
- Sand and glue the surface.
- Cover the heel with leather and insert new padding.
- Enjoy the successful work!
Replacing the lining on the heel
Order from Heel strap repair Heel straps can be repaired at Aleganna's workshop in St. Paul.
Leather-covered heels are often subjected to mechanical stress, and the heels are susceptible to scuffs and chips. Traces of damage spoil the appearance of the shoes and make them look untidy. Even clean shoes or boots with a damaged heel look less attractive.
Scratches and abrasions cannot be removed; a home repair will only make the situation worse. It is better to go directly to a workshop to save time and money and get a beautiful result. Repair of heel strips Heel repairs in the Aleganna workshop are carried out by a master with more than 20 years of experience. In his work he only uses proven materials and professional equipment.
When heel and leather finishing repair is necessary
If Shoe repair heel seam Shoes need frequent repairs because regular use causes unsightly dents, scratches and even cracks in the heel. The most common causes of damage are paving stones, gravel and uneven surfaces as well as office chairs. These can pinch the heel and peel off the top layer.
Over time, moisture, drying out and color fading can cause the cover material to wear and lose its original appearance. If the abrasions have become too visible, it is better to completely reattach the heel. Pets can also cause damage to shoes. If a dog bites the heel, the shoe or boot can be saved by repairing the damage or replacing the heel bar.
Heel trimming during shoe repair A heel cut is also necessary if the client has decided to change the color of the shoe or boot. With a suitably colored material, the model looks much more harmonious.
The final touch when decorating the heel
I didn't manage to find the right width of the band for the height of the heel, so I left about a centimeter gap between the heel and the band. You could have left it black, but I decided to paint it gold. If that doesn't suit you, look for a ribbon that you can cut to the exact size of the heel. Then you don't need to paint.
If you are using a material that can be cut, make a paper pattern first. This makes it easier and the piece will be more accurate.
How did I style my new heels?
First, I wore my new favorite heeled shoes with a little black dress and a spectacular belt.
Gray and black leopard print tights completed the outfit perfectly.
These boots would also look great with an insulated denim jacket.
I don't know about you, but I really liked this way of updating the boots. I have already prepared two more pairs for renovation: boots and ankle boots. However, I don't know yet what decoration materials I will use. I think another visit to the craft store will allow me to choose the right jewelry.
