How to determine shoe size

Up to a certain age, they are divided into one group: children (from newborns) and preschool, then they smoothly pass into the group of teenagers (over 10-12 years old). However, the classification of shoes by age is arbitrary and should not be taken as reliable.

The key to an accurate selection is accurate foot measurements in centimeters (cm) or other length measurements. Depending on which method and in which (units) the length of the foot is measured, there are different notation systems.

• Stitch measure (European) is so named because it is of French origin. It is used in continental Europe, Hong Kong and the Middle East. Further confusion and difficulties arise from the fact that the size is calculated according to the insole, and the conversion from stichts to cm requires multiplication by 2/3, i.e. The main difference in determining the number is not the length of the foot is measured directly, but rather the internal footprint of the shoe (how many cm will be on the insole). In other words, when translating a European shoe size into Russian, one must take into account the decorative margin that shoemakers in Europe leave to ensure comfort. This value is conventional and can vary between 5 and 15 mm depending on the type of product, model and fullness. Therefore, European shoe sizes are approximately (taking into account better comfort, the numbers are rounded to the larger value) marked 1 value larger than a similar pair from a Russian manufacturer.
• Inch (English) - results from using the old English barlicorn length measure, which is 8.47 mm. It is also based on the length of the shoe (insole). A distinctive feature is the presence of the number zero, taking as a reference the imprint of a newborn's foot (about 4 inches or a little more than a decimeter). • The metric system (Russia, other CIS countries) is the simplest and most straightforward, the second name of the system 'Mondopoint' is recognized as an official international standard. The most important parameters that are measured to determine the size of the foot are the length and width of the foot in centimeters and without taking into account the fit allowance - in the tables the shoe size is indicated measured in cm of the foot length. The system, based on measuring the foot in cm, is standardized in China, Korea and other Asian countries and corresponds to the Japanese scale used by NATO forces.
