Lumbar and sacral orthoses for children

Children's lumbosacral orthosis - a product for the treatment of curvatures.

product types.

A standard foot orthosis consists of two parts:

  1. The insole – usually in the form of an insole supinator that clearly follows the curves of the arch of the foot. It supports the entire structure and keeps the foot in an anatomically correct position.
  2. Splints - firmly enclose the shin and secure the ankle from behind.

Such fixations can be provided with additional components such as straps and other attachments.

The design largely determines the functionality of a particular model. However, it is not advisable to choose the orthosis yourself, since only the doctor can assess the condition of the ankle and decide how to wear the orthosis.

One of the most important criteria for choosing an orthosis is the degree of rigidity, which is determined by the stage of development of the pathology:

  • With slight abnormalities or for prophylactic purposes, soft constructions are prescribed.
  • Semi-rigid insoles can be used for moderate foot pathologies.
  • After severe injuries, the joint must be completely immobilized. Rigid orthoses can help with this.

When choosing an orthosis, the material from which it is made is important. Fixators are made of elastic fabric, neoprene or silicone, for example.

Among the traditional orthopedic products to support a clubfoot, modern orthoses made of low-temperature plastic are enjoying increasing popularity. They are made from environmentally friendly raw materials and are therefore also suitable for people with very sensitive skin. They are lightweight and comfortable to wear, extremely durable and aesthetically pleasing.

Advantages of thermoplastic flat foot fixators

The use of low-temperature plastics in orthopedic technology enables the production of an individual orthosis. When exposed to temperatures between 60 and 100 °C, they become malleable and can be easily applied directly to the patient.

These products are much more effective than standard models. The main advantages of thermoplastic orthotics are

  • Formability – the material can be repeatedly heated and its shape adjusted to new conditions.
  • Affordability - no special equipment is required, which not only facilitates the work of the orthopedist, but also significantly reduces the price of the products.
  • Lightweight Design - Thin and lightweight thermoplastics are suitable for both adults and children. They are particularly suitable for longer wear.
  • High strength - after hardening, the material is tough and has increased abrasion resistance.
  • Safe - the hypoallergenic perforated polyurethane does not cause irritation, allows the skin to breathe and does not stick to the hair.

No special skills or equipment are required for the hygienic care of the product. The orthosis is easy to clean with a simple soap or alcohol solution and can also be used in water treatments due to its moisture resistance.

The low-temperature plastic footbed stabilizes and corrects the foot position. Convenient closure for quick fixation.

Fixation of the flat foot

Flat foot is a specific condition where a person is unable to keep their foot in a normal position. This is caused by various anomalies of the ankle, injuries and some diseases. The result is a change in the gait pattern and strain on the spine. This is corrected by the use of a suitable orthopedic orthosis for the ankle.

In addition to aesthetic problems (an unusual gait), a number of serious complications can occur:

  • Joint disease of the knee due to the increased load.
  • Spinal curvature associated with changes in gait.
  • Risk of injury due to gait disorders.
  • spinal injuries.

How to correct the situation?

The first step is to find out what causes flat feet. These can range from trauma to spinal damage and neuralgia. Based on a specific diagnosis, the doctor will prescribe the appropriate treatment.

Special orthopedic products are used to relieve the immediate physical symptoms of clubfoot. A foot orthosis holds the limb firmly but gently in the anatomically correct position. In this way, the device partially takes over the function of the ankle. The result is:

  • Normal gait is maintained;
  • The joint is relieved so that it can recover;
  • The risk of further complications is eliminated;
  • The overall effectiveness of the treatment is increased.

As a result of these three effects, the patient receives:

  • reducing pain;
  • Improved elbow joint function;
  • Reduced risk of complications and additional injuries;
  • Increased effectiveness of treatment.

product features.

  • Convenient and easy to use
  • Moisture-permeable and breathable material

No absolute contraindications were identified.

Relative contraindications require medical advice:

  • Need for an individual joint orthosis
  • Malignant tumor in the area where the dressing system is used
  • Contact dermatitis, ulcers and bedsores in the area of the dressing
  • allergic reaction to the product materials

care instructions

material

A distinction is made between stretch fabric and plastic. Flexible fixators limit the mobility of the joints, eliminate swelling and relieve pain. Plastic fixators completely fix the problem zone and are prescribed after serious injuries and complex operations.

There are also neoprene products that have not only a therapeutic but also a massaging effect. The material is considered to be breathable, so that the skin of the foot can be adequately supplied with oxygen. The product also improves blood circulation and reduces swelling and inflammation.

recovery of physical activity

There are several exercises that help to effectively restore ankle mobility. The doctor must be present at the first exercise unit, after which the patient carries out the exercises independently.

  • Exercise 1 An exercise ball is required. The person stands with their back to the wall and presses the ball against the wall with their lower back. In the starting position you squat down and hold the ball. Your feet should be further back than your knees at this point. During the squat, the maximum angle in the knees should not be greater than 90 degrees.
  • Exercise 2: Balance training on a platform. Stand on a special moving platform with one leg slightly bent at the knee. In the initial phase it is sufficient to balance on one leg. It gets harder from there - while balancing, you have to throw the ball against the wall and catch it.
  • Exercise 3: One-leg jumps. We draw a long line on the floor. The patient should zigzag on the affected limb, walking to one side of the line and then to the other.

There are many more exercises to restore activity of the ankle apparatus. A diet and exercise routine will quickly restore joint flexion and extension and muscle and ligament flexibility. Don't worry too much if you can't move your foot for a while after a fracture. The most important thing is patience and persistent training. If the symptom is associated with a degenerative process, then special treatment with drugs prescribed by a specialist doctor is required.

Why are ankle braces the best method of rehabilitation?

The easiest way to treat patients after a stroke is to use an ankle brace to elevate the foot. Using elastic bands and Velcro, these bandages anatomically fix the ankle to keep the foot in a neutral position during the leg transfer phase. However, compared to orthoses, they have little lifting effect on the foot.

The orthosis, as well as the rules for its use, are prescribed by the doctor individually.

We encourage you to speak to your doctor about the possibility of orthotic and shoe fittings as part of your rehabilitation package – this is essential for anatomically correct foot alignment, proper rollover and restoration of correct gait.

How to choose an orthosis after a stroke?

  1. The type of orthosis, rigidity, size and method of wearing are determined by the doctor in consultation with the diagnostician and the patient's personal parameters.
  2. When purchasing an orthosis, you should try on the model prescribed by the doctor and make sure that the orthosis fits comfortably.
  3. The most reliable way is to buy the orthoses in an orthopedic specialty store.
  1. Dry them away from heaters and direct sunlight.
  2. Do not iron, do not use solvents, do not bleach and do not dry clean.
  3. Store the product in a dry place at room temperature.
  4. Follow the care instructions on the packaging.

Application

High-quality orthoses after a stroke – that means:

  1. The effectiveness of the orthosis, confirmed by the long experience of the orthotic manufacturer, does not cause any damage or aggravation, as happens with similar products sold outside of orthopedic surgeries.
  2. Precise ergonomics of all parts for faster recovery, easy donning and doffing, and low visibility under clothing.
  3. Proven, durable and comfortable materials (no heat, no stiffness, no pinching).

Buy orthotics for the post-stroke period on the recommendation of your doctor and at orthopedic specialty stores that have a good reputation in the orthopedic market.
