The Birth of Perseus

The story of Perseus begins in the city of Argos, which was ruled by the powerful King Acrisius. He had immense wealth, but did not have the heir the ruler dreamed of.

However, the gods gave him a daughter - Danaë - who, when she grew up, became a girl of unearthly beauty. When Akrisius asked the oracle for advice as to who would take the throne of Argos after his death, he was horrified by the dragon's answer.

'Your grandson will kill you' - were the words of the oracle. When the king heard the prophecy, he had Danaë imprisoned in a dungeon, hoping that this would keep her hidden from the eyes of potential suitors and never bear a child.

A few years passed, and Acrisius calmed himself down in the belief that he had managed to deceive fate. Danae lay in a dungeon, but her beauty did not go unnoticed. The supreme god Zeus himself fell in love with the girl. He came to the girl in the form of a golden rain that poured over her beautiful body.

As Zeus' wife, Danaë gave birth to a beautiful boy whom she named Perseus. For a long time Acrisius had no idea about the birth of his grandson. It wasn't until one day, as he was on his way to Danaë's chambers, that he heard the baby crying.

Naturally, the king thought that the servants had let one of their admirers in, thereby disobeying the ruler's orders. At Acrisius' request, the woman and her child were put in a wooden box and thrown into the sea (here the legend of Perseus involuntarily reminds me of 'The Tale of Tsar Soltan' by the writer A. Pushkin).

Description of the ship 'Perseus

The three-story motor ship Perseus has been offering buffet receptions for up to 80 people, banquets for up to 60 people and walks for up to 100 people since 2008. The ship was built as part of the C-109, type Persey project at the Chkalov Shipyard in 1996 and is the flagship of the project. The ship is 26.7m long and 7.7m wide and has a top speed of 20km/h. Wi-Fi is available on board.

On the lower deck are the galley, toilet and staff quarters. The other two decks are freely accessible to guests. The ballroom is light and airy with lots of windows. It is equipped with banquet furniture, a bar with drink service and air conditioning. The banquet area has a natural wood ceiling and work surfaces. Beheading of the Gorgon Medusa

Perseus had to find a way out of this situation. In his hour of need, Hermes appeared to him and promised that he and Athena would help him get the head of the Gorgon Medusa if Perseus could only provide the necessary equipment:

He needed a sack in which he could put the severed head without seeing it so as not to turn to stone himself.

With the help of the gods, Perseus manages to behead Medusa, from whose neck Pegasus and Chrysaor, a warrior with a golden sword, are born.

Perseus and Andromeda

With the loot in his luggage, Perseus set off on his journey to Serif. In Ethiopia he discovered a girl of wonderful beauty. She was chained to a rock and her name was Andromeda. The daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia was given by the oracle into the hands of a sea monster that ravaged the land.

It was believed that Poseidon sent the monster to punish Cassiopeia for boasting that her daughter was more beautiful than the Nereids. Perseus, who had fallen in love with the girl, killed the monster and freed her. However, since her father and brother refused to give him the girl as his wife, he used Medusa's head to turn her into stone.

After beheading Medusa, Perseus brought her head to the goddess Athena, who placed it on her aegis and always appeared with it.

The birth of Perseus.

Prophets, witches, oracles... how much mischief they have brought into the world by lifting the veil of the inevitable future. The birth of Perseus was not without its hateful language. And the story began four thousand years ago in Delphi, when the local Pythia, after taking a large dose of cyanide-containing laurel, prophesied to King Acrisios of Argos that he would die at the hands of his grandson.

A terrible prophecy. Especially since the doomed king already had a young daughter, Danaë, at this point, so his grandson would not be a problem.

Then you should find out what the future would bring. Of course, one could have solved the problem radically by simply killing one's child, especially since at that time the cost of a human life was not very high and the power of those in power was absolute.

But it was easy to say. Paternal feelings aside, the gods could have prevented the murder. They did not indulge those who did not hesitate to shed the blood of close relatives, condemning the murderers to suffer not only in this world, but also in the graves of the dead.

Who had to continually roll a huge stone uphill, who had to fill a bottomless pit. The King of Argos did not dare to test the rich imagination of the Celestials on his own skin, and the girl lived.

And if she had grown into a curvaceous disgustingness that not even a sailor who had been at sea for two years would look at, she didn't. Danaë blossomed into a beautiful woman, admired even by the gods, and there was no shortage of suitors on earth.

Acrisius was horrified. At first he simply didn't let his daughter out of his sight and prevented any contact with the opposite sex, and then, when he got tired of it, he had a copper tower built for his daughter and locked her there with her wet nurse. A fate that is not to be envied.

But fate is not so easily deceived. What can be hidden from men behind thick walls remains open to the gods, and of course the beautiful prisoner could not escape a lecher like Zeus. He was already famous for his attraction to mortal women and this time he didn't disappoint.

Perseus on serif.

Once again the wheels of fate grinded and brought the chest and its cargo to the island of Serif, directly into the net of the fisherman Dictysus. He was the first to tear away the planks and see the beautiful Danaë and little Perseus, and he led the exiles to his brother, the ruler of the island of Polydectus, where they remained.

King Serif did not care why Danaë was thrown into the sea, nor did he fear the wrath of Argos. Enchanted by the girl's beauty, he decided to make her his wife. However, since she was in the arms of Zeus himself, she refused to reciprocate Polydectus. And then her son grew up.

It must be said that Perseus matured very quickly. It was a case of the mind not keeping up with the body. Despite his divine origin, enormous muscle mass and fearless grandson Acrisius, he was still very naive and inexperienced in intrigues, so Polydectus, who decided to get rid of such a protector, could easily deceive him.

Playing with pride and ambition, he extracted a promise from Perseus to bring the head of the Gorgon Medusa to Seriph. She, a former priestess of Athena, had been cursed by her goddess and now wore a ball of hissing snakes on her head instead of her beautiful hair. The mere sight of this monster turned all living beings to stone.

More than one hero has joined the collection of statues on Gorgon Island. It seems that Perseus now faces the same fate. But it goes further. Sometimes conflicts between the gods help us mortals survive. And that's exactly what happened back then.

Where to watch the Perseids in Russia in 2022?

The first meteors will appear in the sky on July 17, 2022, and you have just over a month to observe this beautiful astronomical phenomenon - the last meteors will fly past Earth on August 24. As already mentioned, the peak of rain this year falls on the night of August 12th to 13th.

The best time to view the falling Perseids is 11pm local time - look for the falling meteors to the northeast. The intensity will gradually increase after midnight and peak around 4:30 am.

Although the full moon will be in the sky at the same time, it should be gone by 10 p.m. So if you're ready to enjoy the summer night sky until morning, be sure to see at least a few meteors.

How to prepare for observing the Perseids

To get a better view of the Perseids, find a dark place. Experienced people advise going into the forest so that the city lights do not interfere. If you want to watch the meteor shower, take warm clothes or a blanket, a thermos with a warm drink and something to eat. You can also use a sleeping bag, air mattress, or folding chair to keep it warmer and allow you to lie or sit more comfortably while you wait for the Perseids.

You don't need telescopes or binoculars. If there are no clouds or glare, you can see the meteor shower with the naked eye. So make yourself comfortable, pour yourself a cup of warm tea, wrap yourself up warm and enjoy. Watching the falling meteors will probably take longer than you think because it will take at least 30 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the darkness. But if you see a few falling Perseids afterwards, that night will surely be one of your fondest memories of the summer.
