Pelvic ankle bones

The following physiotherapeutic measures are recommended for patients in remission:

Deforming osteoarthritis of the ankle joint. Treatment

Treatment for deforming arthrosis of the ankle consists of pain in the ankle joint that increases when walking. It is indicated by swelling and morning stiffness that resolves within an hour. Conservative treatment of deforming arthrosis of the ankle consists of various groups of medications, massage therapy and physiotherapy. However, if the cartilaginous and bony structures of the ankle joint are severely damaged, surgery is necessary.

General information about deforming osteoarthritis of the ankle

Deforming osteoarthritis of the ankle (DOA) is a degenerative-dystrophic disease. It initially affects the cartilage that lines the bony surfaces. Due to nutritional deficiencies, cartilage cannot retain moisture well, so it quickly thins out and becomes dense and inflexible. The destruction of hyaline cartilage increases the stress on the bone when walking, bending and extending the ankle joint. The bone plates deform and form growths called osteophytes.

If a person does not seek medical attention, DOA spreads to healthy tissue. Ligaments, tendons, joint capsules and muscles are gradually included in the pathological process.
