Plantar fasciitis (plantar fasciitis) or heel spurs are hard growths on the underside of the heel bone embedded in soft tissue. This formation presses on the inflamed tendons and ligaments and causes pain when walking. The progression is slow and gradual. At first there is slight pain when walking, then it becomes more severe. At the beginning of walking there is very strong pain, but this decreases in intensity as the time goes on. Periodically, the pain syndrome worsens and the affected person is no longer able to stand on their foot. This is due to worsening inflammation of the ligaments and plantar fascia. Some patients can no longer wear normal shoes and prefer to walk everywhere in stomping slippers. In severe inflammation, painful sensations may occur even at rest.
