Indications for wearing orthopedic medical shoes

Wearing orthopedic health shoes is recommended by your doctor. In what cases is it recommended to wear these shoes

  • for alignment of bones and joints during intense physical exertion;
  • flatfoot, clubfoot;
  • bulging of the heads of the metatarsal bones;
  • uneven foot size;
  • hammer toes;
  • swelling of the lower limbs;
  • heel spur; swellings on the feet; toe bones;
  • corns, calluses;
  • pain, severe tension in the feet;
  • diabetes.

What does wearing therapeutic shoes do?

  • The arches of the feet are well supported. Feet are less tired. In addition, the right hold prevents the development of fascial and tendon inflammation.
  • Blood circulation in the lower limbs is improved. More oxygen and nutrients get into the blood. This will help prevent swelling.
  • The foot receives the necessary massage throughout the day, which improves walking comfort and prevents unnecessary fatigue and pain.
  • The muscles begin to work more harmoniously, tighten and become stronger.
  • The gait becomes more stable.

The therapeutic footwear also protects the limbs from injuries and deformations and relieves the joints and the spine.

What distinguishes orthopedic shoes?

Preventive and therapeutic shoes have special insoles with supports that support the arch of the foot in different directions. The size of the insoles can be individually adjusted depending on the problem. If the shoes are intended for mass use, the size of the insoles corresponds to the size of a healthy foot.

In orthopedic shoes, heel impressions and comfortable toe spacers provide stability.

The sole must be non-slip, sufficiently strong and flexible.

Laces and various fasteners are used in such shoes to provide a choice of completeness and secure attachment to the feet.

In the case of deformed feet with bones, manufacturers use special insoles to reduce the pressure on the problem areas of the feet.

crafting material

State-of-the-art technologies are used in the production of knee braces to ensure durability and quality. The effectiveness of the product directly depends on the quality of the material.

  1. Cotton. Suitable for daily wearing. The material is hypoallergenic and does not cause diaper rash or skin irritation.
  2. spandex. Products from this fabric have a different degree of fixation.
  3. Elastane and Lycra fabric. These soft materials allow air to circulate through the legs and are firm and easy to secure.
  4. neoprene. It is not recommended to wear this material permanently. Not suitable for people prone to allergies. The bandage has a warming effect and fixation is increased.

Orthopedic orthosis

Based on the diagnosis and the individual characteristics of the patient, the doctor decides which material the bandage should be made of.

stiffness

Soft, stiff orthoses should be worn for minor injuries or bruises and for prophylactic purposes. They do not restrict movement and keep the joint in the correct position. Children should also wear soft orthoses.

The medium bandage is used after injuries and during rehabilitation after operations. The knee is protected from re-injury and the fixation is secure.

Hard constructions can be used for serious injuries such as broken bones, torn ligaments, etc.

How to use?

After the first use, putting on the orthosis is very easy. If the orthosis is removable, it is worth putting it on a couple of times to check for damage and the tightness of the straps and fasteners.

Adjusting the brace should not be difficult. A rigid bandage provides the best fit, but care should be taken not to restrict blood flow.

Buckles must not compress or cause discomfort

Interesting!!! In order to prolong the life of the product, it is recommended not to machine wash or iron it.

Dry the product horizontally so that the fabrics and components do not stretch. When tightening, make sure the cup cutout is fully aligned with the gag. The wearing time is specified in the instructions for use; an extension should be discussed with your doctor.

Important: The right splint fits the right leg, the left splint for the left leg and must not be altered.

The following rules are also recommended:

  1. Constant wearing of soft, elastic orthoses is contraindicated. The skin underneath heats up, sweats, and the situation can worsen. The chaps can be worn 24 hours a day.
  2. The duration of wearing is determined by the doctor. The device should not be removed prematurely.
  3. The structures are removed twice a day for at least 20 minutes.
  4. It is recommended to wear supinated shoes to increase the effectiveness of the device.
  5. Pay attention to your well-being when wearing the orthosis. If you have any discomfort, pain, or trouble walking, see your doctor right away.

What Foods Can Cause Heartburn?

Foods that can cause heartburn can be divided into 5 main groups based on their effect:

  1. Increased acidity in the stomach due to activation of hydrochloric acid production.
  2. Activation of digestive enzymes (this also increases acid production).
  3. Irritation of the walls of the stomach, esophagus and intestines.
  4. Relaxation of the sphincter muscle between the stomach and esophagus.
  5. Increased gas formation in the stomach and intestines (this contributes to increased intra-abdominal pressure leading to congestion) 1 .

Foods that can cause heartburn because they increase acidity:

The active production of digestive enzymes can be triggered by the following difficult-to-digest foods:

  • meat broths;
  • fried foods;
  • high-fat dairy products;
  • Charcuterie;
  • hot spices and spicy foods;
  • Fast food;
  • Concentrates for the preparation of first courses.

Enzymes are also actively produced when food that is too cold from the refrigerator is eaten. Digestion takes a long time and can cause a burning sensation in the esophagus.

The following foods can irritate the digestive tract:

  • unripe fruits and berries;
  • onions;
  • Horseradish;
  • Garlic;
  • Mustard;
  • various sauces, including ketchup;
  • spicy breadcrumbs and chips.
  • All kinds of fast food.

Relaxation of the esophageal sphincter is not only a cause of occasional heartburn, it is also an important mechanism in the development of esophageal reflux disease 5 . Foods that promote relaxation:

Eating spicy foods can also contribute to heartburn by relaxing the sphincter muscle between the stomach and esophagus. Therefore, after cooking, it is recommended to wait until the food has cooled down a bit.

Which Foods Don't Cause Heartburn?

The list of foods that contribute to the burning sensation in the esophagus is long. However, for people who suffer from this problem, a list of foods that are safe and do not lead to the development of the unpleasant symptom has been drawn up. Foods that don't cause heartburn include:

  • Groats (mainly rice, buckwheat, and oat groats) cooked in water with no (or very little) oil;
  • parsley, dill, green lettuce leaves for hot and cold dishes;
  • soups based on vegetable broth and vegetables;
  • almost all vegetables and sweet fruits (except those listed as prohibited);
  • lean meat and fish, boiled or fried;
  • low-fat cottage cheese;
  • boiled eggs;
  • Low-fat cheese without added spices;
  • Jellies, kislies, and marshmallows (preferably homemade) are allowed in limited quantities;
  • Bread in small quantities 1.

Eating large amounts of a food definitely increases the risk of heartburn. Therefore, even harmless foods can lead to esophageal reflux if consumed in excess.

When to see a pediatric orthopedist

The first examination, which focuses on the infant's hip joints, takes place a few days after birth. If dysplasia or a dislocation is detected, a special orthosis is fitted. Every three months, infants up to the age of one year are examined by an orthopedist. The doctor looks at the child together with the child:

  • whether there are signs of poor posture
  • if it has complaints of back and joint pain;
  • if the location of the folds on the body is uneven;
  • if the legs are unequal in length;
  • curvature of the limbs.

The pediatric orthopedist is consulted if a child walks poorly after the first year of life, falls repeatedly, gets tired while walking, does not stand on the whole foot but on the outer or inner part of the foot, turns his head only to one side.

Pediatric orthopedics offers a fee-based diagnosis and treatment of torticollis, clubfoot, deformities of the limbs and flat feet.

treatment methods and tools

To correct the posture of infants and restore the normal functioning of the musculoskeletal system, the orthopedist chooses semi-rigid corrections, which are attached with Velcro to regulate tension. They are not uncomfortable for the children and are not noticed when they are worn.

To restore the correct position of the damaged structures, a cast or splint is applied and skeletal traction with spokes is performed.

To eliminate spasms and inflammation, relieve pain and strengthen bones and muscles, children are prescribed drug therapy, which involves taking:

  • Chondroprotectors and corticosteroids
  • Preparations to stimulate microcirculation
  • vitamin complexes;
  • Analgesics and muscle relaxants.

Physiotherapy and physical therapy are prescribed to work on the damaged areas and restore blood circulation.

Surgery, including arthroplasty and computer modeling, is used by orthopedists to install artificial joints, Elizarov staples, and tendon grafts.
