Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics
The Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics was founded more than 60 years ago. During this time, the founders of orthopedics and traumatology, well-known professors and scientists who later became heads of various medical institutions in our country worked here. The experience gained during this time, as well as advanced technologies and methods, allow us today to provide highly qualified care at the most modern level and good and excellent results in the treatment of children with congenital and acquired pathologies of the musculoskeletal system.
In 2018, the department was named after Professor VP Nemsadze, one of the founders of pediatric traumatology and orthopedics, who worked in the department for 47 years.
The ward has 60 beds, including 30 trauma beds, 20 orthopedic beds and 10 pediatric neurotrauma beds. The rooms are furnished in an age-appropriate manner so that the children feel as comfortable as possible in them. There are also separate cabins for small children where they stay with their mothers.
Every year, more than 3,000 reconstructive operations of varying complexity are performed on children and adolescents with the following pathologies:
- Congenital anomalies and malformations of the musculoskeletal system (syndactyly and polydactyly, polyphalangy, ectro- and clinodactyly, deformities and shortenings of the fingers, shortening of the metacarpals and metatarsals, shortenings and deformities of the limbs, clubfoot, ankle defects, clubfoot, amniotomy, false tibial joint, hips; Congenital torticollis, false clavicle joint, Sprengel disease (high shoulder), congenital hip dislocations and subluxations, valgus and labral deformities of the proximal thigh (coxa vara, coxa valga).
- Traumatic injuries and long-term consequences (closed and open fractures of any complexity and location, fractures of the hand and foot, combined and multiple injuries, intra-articular injuries and their consequences, fractures in infants and young children, abnormally healed fractures, incorrect joints, post-traumatic deformities and limb shortening , fingers and feet).
- Diseases, injuries and consequences of injuries to large joints (cruciate ligament rupture, meniscus, luxating patella, osteochondropathies of the knee joint (Kenig's disease, Levene's disease, etc.).
- Musculoskeletal disorders (scoliosis), aseptic necrosis of the femoral head (Perthes disease), localized epiphyseal dysplasia (juvenile epiphysiolysis, Blount disease, humerus varus), stenotic ligamentitis (Nott disease)
- Foot misalignments in children and adolescents of different age groups - the most modern surgical treatment methods are used here, including reconstructive procedures with shortening and displacement of the tibial and foot muscle tendons as well as arthrodesis of the subtalar joint with modern implants.
- Tumors and tumor-like lesions of the bone and soft tissues (osteochondromas and osteochondromas of all positions and sizes, fibromas, chondromas, osteochondromas, enchondromas and echondromas of the hands and feet, osteoid osteochondromas, primary chronic osteochondromas, aneurysms and solitary bone cysts, hirgromas, soft tissue fibromas, lipomas)

The Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation was founded in 1975. The department has 25 beds and admits patients on a budget basis (set quota) and on a fee basis for urgent and planned indications. The traumatology department has 6 beds for the surgical treatment of spinal pathologies.
Since 1989, the head of the department has been Vladimir P. Abeltsev, MD, PhD, laureate of the USSR State Prize and the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation, member of the European Osteosynthesis Association (AO).
Currently, the department's focus is on state-of-the-art reconstructive surgery for adults with limb injuries, joint diseases and spinal pathologies.
We use the most modern treatment methods, including our own procedures (two-stage hip joint replacement; radical minimally invasive surgical technique on the spine).
The computer navigation system used allows constant monitoring and control during the operation, which guarantees precise placement of the implants according to the patient's anatomy. In addition, the results of the operation are recorded on modern data carriers that can be transferred to the patient.
When treating injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system, we only use original fixators and endoprostheses from leading foreign companies.
Evaluation of foreign specialists
Specialists in orthopedics from selected foreign countries deserve special respect. We have selected doctors from countries with the best development of orthopedic trauma medicine and the highest level of patient care. Therefore, the ranking will be organized by country and will include the best specialists.
Czech Republic
The Czech Republic tops the rankings as orthopedics and traumatology is the most developed and prioritized medical specialty in this country. In the Czech Republic, an individual and interdisciplinary approach is taken to help a person forget their pain and lead an active and fulfilling life again as quickly as possible. Clinics and orthopedic trauma surgeons in the Czech Republic have received the most enthusiastic and positive reports from patients, including those from Russia, who have been fortunate enough to be treated here. We introduce the most outstanding orthopedic surgeons in the Czech Republic.
- Jan Deniger is an orthopedic surgeon of the highest specialization, a legend of Czech orthopedics with more than 35 years of medical experience. The high professionalism of Dr. Deniger is known throughout Europe, which is why he rightly takes first place in the ranking of foreign orthopedic surgeons. Jan has worked productively in Austria and Germany (Cologne). Since 2005, the district hospital in Kladno has been his second home, where he spends most of his time rescuing patients. He is the chief physician of the department of orthopedics and traumatology. In his practice, he extensively and masterfully uses the innovative tactic of the most gentle joint replacement, the MIS method, through a compact incision (6-8 cm), without traumatic separation of muscles and soft tissues. Jan Deniger has performed more than 8,000 successful artificial hip replacements and more than 2,000 knee replacements. That's an impressive statistic for one doctor! Of course, Dr. Deniger is not only strong in endoprosthetics, but also very competent in other areas of modern surgery.

Good to know
No special preparation is required for the appointment.
An orthopedist deals with the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system. You should see a specialist if you regularly have difficulty walking or notice changes in your movements.
Your doctor will speak to you to take your medical history. He will then carry out a visual examination and a general assessment of your musculoskeletal system. To do this, he can ask you to do some simple physical exercises. Based on the data collected, the doctor makes a diagnosis.

He is a very good doctor, does a thorough examination, is attentive and calm. He checks everything 33 times before giving his verdict. I was treated for a hand injury.
Thank you for the excellent treatment!
I had a second degree burn. It hurt like sparks were flying out of my eyes. I couldn't believe it would heal anymore. Multiple professional dressings, performed quickly, accurately and on time, healed the burn. In fact, every doctor is a bit of a psychologist! And the good attitude and belief in quick healing is thanks to her! Thank you very much!!!

What does an orthopedic surgeon do?
Orthopedic diseases and injuries can be congenital or acquired (due to trauma or as a result of illness). The most common conditions for which patients seek medical attention include the following.
- Postural curvatures (scoliosis, hunchback, lordosis, kyphosis and others);
- Congenital abnormalities affecting skeletal development (clubfoot, underdeveloped limbs, dwarfism, hip dislocation, etc.).
- Acute chronic diseases causing joint deformities;
- tumors of bone tissue;
- Trauma disorders: broken bones, torn ligaments, dislocations and traumatic amputations.
Orthopedists also deal with torticollis, flat feet and many other problems, and there are specialists with a wide range of specialties as well as those who focus on a single specialty. The latter category of doctors is often confronted with patients with complex diagnoses.
Depending on the nature of the disease, patients can be referred to an orthopedist, who mainly uses so-called conservative treatment methods: massage, physiotherapy, bandages, plasters, prostheses and medication. For more radical treatment methods, a referral is made to an orthopedist who performs invasive procedures. For acute illnesses caused by recent trauma, patients are referred to a trauma surgeon. Here the doctor treats the pain and refers the patient for examinations.
Orthopedics is also closely related to other medical disciplines: neurology, gynecology and others. Clinics with an orthopedic department therefore have the advantage that they can also call in doctors from other disciplines.
How do I make an appointment with a podiatrist?
As with any specialist, the patient describes the orthopedist's complaints and concerns in the area of the musculoskeletal system. The doctor is obliged to ask not only about the clinical picture of the patient, but also about the circumstances of his professional activity, lifestyle and concomitant diseases. After taking the medical history, the orthopedist must examine the patient in the area where the discomfort occurs.
By palpation, the doctor determines the location of the lesion and examines the affected area to determine the extent and features of the pathology. The doctor must also pay attention to the condition of the skin and the symmetry of the skeleton, especially in children and adolescents. If necessary, the orthopedist conducts special examinations, and then prescribes the necessary examination procedures (MRI, ultrasound, MSCT or drug treatment, physiotherapy, massage and others).
The doctor must also make an appropriate entry in the patient's medical record and set a date for the next appointment (depending on the nature of the disease, this may be several days or months later). The best doctors with many years of experience not only prescribe treatment, but also explain the reasons for this decision and indicate what could have led to the aggravation.

- By telephone via the reception in the health center.
- Via the terminals installed in the polyclinics (if available).
- Via an online registration system.
It is most convenient for patients to make an appointment with an orthopedist, like any other specialist, using the online registration system. When you register on the website, you must log in, provide your MHI insurance number and enter your date of birth.
Once logged in, the website will display the days and times a person can make an appointment with a doctor. This information is provided only for the polyclinic to which the patient is assigned. If he or she wants to receive medical services at another facility, this must be officially changed.
It is usually possible to make an appointment with a specialist a week or two in advance. If a person's plans change, they can always change their appointment in the same way.
