Insoles are easy to care for. Hand wash products with textile uppers in warm, soapy water, while leather products should be cleaned with a damp cloth or a soft cloth soaked in a diluted alcohol solution. Dry the insoles at room temperature, away from radiators and direct sunlight. At the end of the day, take the insoles out of the shoe to air them out.

use of the prosthesis
The prosthesis is adjusted taking into account the specified body weight and the heel height of the foot, so an arbitrary change of shoes with different heel heights is not allowed. Otherwise, the stability and support of the prosthesis as well as the even distribution of pressure on the stump surface in the prosthetic socket will change.
The prosthesis can be worn all day long. During use of the prosthesis, the volume of the stump may change, which is more common in initial prosthetic care, and the soft tissues of the stump may atrophy. In this case, the number of stump skeletons must be adjusted (4 wool skeletons are included when making the prosthesis). During the use of the prosthesis, the total number of sleeves should not exceed four - this is the ideal condition. If more sleeves are needed, it means that the soft tissue of the stump has atrophied and the disabled person must visit a prosthesis fitting company to replace the acetabulum.
Care of the prosthesis
The person must be able to use the prosthesis and perform necessary self-care with the prosthesis. In the case of primary prostheses, instruction in the use of the prosthesis must take place in the inpatient department of the orthopedic department.
Daily care of the prosthesis is also necessary. To remove skin particles and sweat, wipe the inside surface of the cuff with a damp cloth.
A clean interior surface of the cuff helps prevent skin irritation.
If an insert (silicone cuff) is used, ensure that the cuff is cared for daily according to the instructions for use.
- To avoid deformation of the hip socket, do not store the prosthesis in a damp place or near heating devices.
- Avoid hard impacts on the prosthesis and prostheses, do not lift or carry heavy weights beyond the permissible load on the prosthetic parts and the foot. Exceptions are work prostheses that are specifically designed for work.
- Clean the inside of the foil sleeves regularly (at least 3 times a week) with a damp cloth and soap solution and dry them thoroughly.
- The exterior surface of the plastic cases should be wiped with a damp cloth and soap at least once a month. The splint (the aid over the shoulder) should be cleaned as often as possible with a brush and soap.
- The worn metal parts of the prosthesis and joints should be checked and lubricated with machine oil or technical petroleum jelly every 1 to 2 months. These lubricants protect the joints from rapid wear and make the prosthesis easier to use.
- Wool and silicone fabrics should be kept clean by timely washing.
- If the acetabulum becomes loose while using the prosthesis, use the 4 sleeves provided with the prosthesis. If the prosthesis fits loosely on the residual limb when using the 4 sleeves, contact the prosthesis manufacturer to adjust or replace the prosthetic socket. For medical reasons, it is possible to replace the prosthetic socket up to 3 times per year (for therapy and training prostheses).

Who needs them?
Our feet are having a hard time, even if we don't feel it at the moment. During normal, steady walking, they are loaded with 1.5 times the weight of a human. They keep the body upright, allow movement in space and distribute the load evenly across all parts of the musculoskeletal system.
The anatomical shape of the feet determines the quality of their function. Even a slight deviation can affect posture and cause abnormalities in the muscles, ligaments and joints of the upper body, including the spine. Orthoses are intended to correct foot deformities and minimize the negative effects on the entire musculoskeletal system.
- Flat feet (transverse, longitudinal, combined)
- Valgus or varus foot deformities (in valgus the foot moves outwards, in varus it moves inwards).
- Valgus deformity of the big toe (toe bone)
- heel spur
- Different leg lengths leading to abnormal pelvic alignment
- diabetic foot
- varicose veins
- Conditions after injuries of the lower limbs
- clubfoot
- calluses, corns.
The insoles are suitable for both adults and children. Statistics show that 40% of children under 6 years of age have flat feet. This can be easily corrected with children's orthotics before the foot's growth is complete. In Moscow you can buy them in orthopedic salons, pharmacies and medical equipment stores. It is important to have your child examined by a podiatrist or orthopedist at least once a year, as flat feet are often not noticeable in children. But the absence or weakening of the arch of the foot at a young age increases the load on the joints of the legs (hips, knees) and the spine. As a result, curvature of the spine, intervertebral fractures and osteoratosis can occur in adulthood.
How do they work?
Orthopedic insoles are designed to help correct foot deformities and keep the foot in an anatomically correct position.
- Heel shock absorber (shock absorption)
- Metatarsal pad (elevation in the medial part) to support the transverse arch of the foot.
- anatomically shaped spring cage
- Interdigital bar to prevent foot slipping and relieve pressure in overloaded areas.
- Lining of the inner longitudinal vault.
For each type of foot deformity, an insole with specific elements is selected. For example, transverse flat feet require a pronounced metatarsal arch, while longitudinal flat feet may have minimal or no arch.
Orthotics compensate for lost cushioning capacity and help distribute body weight correctly to the correct pressure points. They increase stability when walking and in static positions, reduce inward and outward stiffness of the foot and reduce the risk of injury. They eliminate discomfort, pain and increased fatigue when walking, as well as pain in other parts of the musculoskeletal system (knees, back, pelvis) caused by foot deformities.
The functions of insoles include supporting, stimulating, correcting and relieving certain areas of the foot. They correct the muscular tension of the foot. Under their influence, muscles that were very tense are relaxed. And muscles that are not working optimally are activated. When worn regularly, the products help improve blood circulation in the legs and general well-being.

There are many different types of varicose vein stockings available today. The items of laundry differ in their properties in terms of strength and weakness. The final choice should be made based on a list of medical indications, giving priority to your own comfort and convenience. Let's take the main categories of hosiery as an example and note their main differences separately.
Knitted stockings are excellent for alleviating negative manifestations and completely eliminating inconvenience. Experienced professionals recommend using it in the initial stages of BPH. At this stage of the disease, the veins in the lower leg area are usually affected. Please note that knee-length versions are uncomfortable when worn with a skirt. They are useless for moderate to severe varicose veins.
Women are often advised to combine the best option for stockings. The stocking component helps to ensure the required level of compression in the legs. This means there is no additional strain on the abdominal area and the stockings are best when worn in the last trimester.
They are an excellent option for therapy in the later trimester. Active use of compression tights ensures a noticeable pressure effect on the abdominal area. To completely eliminate this negative effect, it is recommended to purchase separate tights designed specifically for pregnant women.
Individual selection of the compression strength of tights for pregnant women is not recommended, as this often leads to many negative consequences. For this reason, an experienced phlebologist or general practitioner is responsible for prescribing varicose vein stockings.
Indications and contraindications
However, it should be borne in mind that prevention of insidious changes in phlebosis is not completely possible, so it is advisable to seek separate advice from a doctor.
Therapeutic variants of stockings are not recommended for the following diseases:
- dermatitis, eczema or allergies;
- If there are open wounds or bleeding;
- If there are signs of heart failure;
- In the presence of lung disease and pronounced GER;
- Excellent for the prevention and treatment of AF;
- Can be used in early, intermediate and final stages of the disease;
- Large selection of compression stockings in your own style and size;
- Additional consultations with doctors, etc. are required.
What are flat feet and which insoles to choose?
Flat feet are a pathology of the shape and structure of the foot. This deformation can occur in three ways:
- Transversal. flattening of the forefoot;
- Complex. All arches of the feet are deformed;
- Elongated deformation. Flattening of the elongated part of the foot.
Flat feet can be congenital or caused by wearing poor footwear, injuries to the foot, or restricted mobility. In the initial stages, the condition is treated with orthopedic insoles.
The following types of shoes are selected for flat feet:
- For transverse deformity, choose products with special inserts and pads that act on the painful area;
- with longitudinal flat feet, you should stock up on orthopedic insoles with a supinator and a rigid frame. This helps distribute the load, relieve pain and keep the heel in the correct position.
- Combined flat feet are corrected using orthopedic insoles with pelotics, cushioning and supination. It aims to reduce the load on the entire skeleton and pain in the spine and joints.
If such a dangerous condition remains untreated, its development can lead to serious leg diseases and disabilities.
In order to feel the comfort when wearing shoes and the positive effect of insoles, they must be selected correctly. They should not form wrinkles or lumps as you walk. If in doubt, you should consult a specialist, especially with a diagnosis such as flatfoot. Choosing the right insoles will save you problems with possible deformities and help prevent the development of diseases.
Orthoses: how to choose the right prescription?
In order to make the right choice, it is important to know for what purpose orthoses are purchased and how they are used. There are three main uses:

How to choose orthoses
When selecting insoles, the main factors to consider are foot size and intended use. Errors in sizing can result in reduced or no positive effect, so the patient must know how to choose the right insole. It should fit snugly in the shoe without slipping or creasing when walking.
Before choosing an insole, a consultation with a doctor is required. Based on the symptoms, examination and tests, the doctor will select the right type. The patient only has to decide on the right price range and the right design.
How to choose orthotics for flat feet
It is important to know the different types of complaints:
Depending on the type of complaint, a specific type of insoles is selected.
How to choose insoles for transverse flatfoot?
There are three levels of severity for this type of flat foot. In the first degree, the big toe tips slightly to the side and a thickening of the bone occurs. The second degree occurs when there is a significant angle of curvature of the big toe (35 degrees). The third degree occurs when all toes are deformed.
There are several parameters that answer the question of how to choose insoles for this type of flat feet. They should be equipped with a pelota, a metatarsal pad. This supports the transverse arch. This relieves it and relieves the pain.
Slow flatfoot: Which insoles are necessary?
This form of flat foot can cause various symptoms, such as knee pain, joint pain, varicose veins and poor posture.
How do I choose shoe insoles for adults with longitudinal flat feet? In this case, your doctor will prescribe a mandatory shoe insert for your foot. This ensures that the load on the foot is evenly distributed and relieves pain and discomfort. A common material for these insoles is high-temperature-resistant plastic, which supports the heel and arch of the foot.
How high/long should the crutches be?
The height of the crutches is calculated individually, but they are available in 3 sizes and must correspond to the height and weight:
- Size S - corresponds to 140-160 cm and is designed for 90 kg;
- Size M - corresponds to 160-180 cm and is designed for 110 kg;
- Size L - corresponds to 180-200 cm and a maximum weight of 120 kg.
Each size can be adjusted with a ball and the length of the ball from the handle to the armpit. Please note that the upper part of the crutch should never reach the armpit and should leave a few centimeters of space.
Which crutches are best suited?
All models have advantages and disadvantages that should be taken into account when choosing one or the other:
- If the height of the crutches and their handles are not adjusted correctly, they can - even taking into account their soft wheels - pinch the neurovascular canal and cause temporary paralysis due to the constant pressure in the armpit.
- They are more aesthetically pleasing than underarm pads;
- They are more compact in terms of their size;
- More difficult to balance;
- People with weak arms and shoulders cannot use this device because of the risk of falling;
- Unsuitable for elderly people with injuries who cannot stand on both legs;
- More difficult for women due to a less developed shoulder edge;
- These supports cannot be used during the initial rehabilitation period if the limb has been amputated;
- They are more difficult to use for overweight people.
types of orthotics
First of all, all orthoses are divided into therapeutic and prophylactic orthoses. This classification must be taken into account when purchasing orthoses, because the shape and material of the product vary depending on the area of application. The main classification that can be applied to a therapeutic product such as orthopedic insoles can also be considered the age and gender classification of shoe insoles:
This classification should not be ignored when selecting shoe insoles, as the manufacturer determines the age and the Changes to the foot of the future userFor this reason, male insoles will not have the desired effect on the weaker sex.
All orthopedic models can also be divided into insoles with a frame and insoles without a frame. The difference between the insoles lies in their strength, which is achieved due to a specific structure. Here are some facts about insoles with and without frames:
- Insoles with frames are suitable for active people who travel a lot;
- Models with preventive casing are suitable for sports and combat all types of flat feet;
- The frameless insoles are characterized by their softness and improved cushioning of the foot;
- Frameless insoles are also known as soft insoles and are the only type used for diabetic foot patients.
Compare Frameless and carcassless inserts. Shown here are Pedag sports shoe insoles and Pedag insoles for diabetic feet.

Inserting and adjusting orthopedic insoles
The fitting process for orthopedic insoles is considered normal. If these are the first insoles a person has worn, they may be uncomfortable at first. However, the unfamiliarity should not be confused with pain, which indicates that the insoles are not suitable for the wearer.
How quickly you get used to the insoles often depends on the material of the product. For example, gel insoles or leather versions are considered the most comfortable insoles from day one. Silicone insoles, which immediately adapt to the shape of the foot, are also considered comfortable. The most difficult adjustment is with orthoses that contain a rigid therapeutic supinator and with therapeutic low shoes for modeling shoes.
Here are some tips from orthopedic technicians on how you can quickly get used to orthoses:
- The key to quick adaptation to all types of orthoses (whether they are prophylactic models, flat foot prevention or therapeutic insoles for diabetics) is the correct fit.
- The first time, ask your podiatrist or consultant at the store where you want to buy insoles. They will show you how to properly adjust the device.
- Prosthetists give their patients about two weeks to get used to new factory-made orthotics and a maximum of ten days if the orthotics were custom-made.
- Just as you should wear new shoes, you should also wear the first pair of insoles you purchase or have made.
- If you need to wear shoe insoles every day to treat flat feet or other conditions, at the first sign of foot fatigue you should walk around the house barefoot or remove your shoes and let your limbs rest for a while.
- The pressure of a supinating insole on the feet is often very high. You should then rule out the possibility that the product does not suit you. It may just be the initial discomfort caused by new shoe inserts with a hard insole, and the discomfort will quickly subside.
How to choose anti-inflammatory stockings
Joint-friendly stockings are available in different sizes. You can find a size chart on the Aesculap website. With these you can easily determine your stocking size. Our experts at orthopedic stores can also accurately determine the size of the hospital stocking you need.
Before purchasing your stocking, measure the following parameters:
Knowing these parameters, you can purchase the right size of surgical stocking not only for yourself, but also for a sick relative.
The level of compression of hospital stockings should be determined by your doctor.
How to put on the anti-embolism stockings?
You should be dressed in a supine position. Slowly pull the stocking on from top to toe. Then pull it over your leg and distribute it evenly along the entire length.
High compression underwear must be put on using a special device - a churning machine.
This is a device that can make putting on stockings as easy and painless as possible.
The butterfly is like a frame. A piece of clothing is pulled over him.
This creates the necessary stretch so that the foot can be inserted without much difficulty.
Thanks to the butler, it is possible to quickly and painlessly apply a compression or inflammation stocking to people who have difficulty bending over.
How do I choose the right toe mask?
If the shoe is quite tight and the toes are compressed and overlapping, a valgus toe corrector, baffles with fixation, and wedges and insoles should be used. These prevent further deformation by keeping the toes in the anatomically correct position.
If there are accompanying defects and curvatures, e.g. B. Valgus deformity, orthoses with additional protection, such as. B. a bone protection used. This product protects the protruding part of the joint from additional load from the shoe and prevents abrasion on the foot.
Special insoles or pads are used for abrasions and blisters between the toes and at the tips of the joints. These prevent access to injured skin, help prevent more severe abrasions and promote better recovery.
A special size grid is often used to adapt the model to the foot and shoe size. This detail should not be neglected - it directly determines how convenient and effective the use of the corrector will be.
How to use orthoses correctly?
There are several ways to use toe insoles:
To ensure that the products do not cause harm, a few simple rules must be followed:
- Wash and dry your feet, toes and the space between your toes thoroughly before using the insoles;
- Perform a gentle massage of the injured part of the foot;
- Lubricate blisters, abrasions and hardened areas with a special cream or ointment;
- Take a warm bath for your toes;
- Always wash the product in a warm soapy solution after use;
- Do not exceed the recommended duration of use.
