Ankle of the right foot in Latin

In children, the help of an orthopedist is necessary if the child has gait disorders, difficulty walking at more than 1 year of age, pain in the joints, spine, bones or muscles, abnormal posture and many other cases

When should an orthopedist be consulted?

The patient should visit this specialist both in case of injury and in the event of certain symptoms of the disease that may indicate pathology of the musculoskeletal system:

  • Pain and swelling in the small and large joints, limited mobility and function;
  • swelling of soft tissues, tendons, or muscles;
  • painful grinding, clicking, or other noises that the patient hears or feels when bending the hip, knee, or other joints.
  • Shooting in the lower back, severe back pain, neck stiffness;
  • pain in the foot or heel;
  • Stooping, rapid fatigue, visually noticeable difference in shoulder height;
  • 'Inward sinking, clubfoot, uneven wear of the sole of the shoe;
  • Lameness, clubfoot, etc.

How does the visit to the podiatrist work?

During the visit, the doctor listens to the patient's complaints, explains the circumstances of the injury, takes a detailed anamnesis, conducts a visual examination and determines the mobility of the joints, the degree and characteristics of the pain syndrome. If necessary, the patient will then be referred for diagnostic tests, such as: E.g.:

  • X-rays;
  • CT scans (computed tomography)
  • MRI (magnetic resonance imaging);
  • Ultrasound of joints and soft tissues – depiction of pathology in synovitis, tendinitis and myositis of any localization, as well as in tendon and muscle sprains and strains;
  • Blood and urine tests, biochemical blood tests – to detect signs of inflammation, calcium metabolism disorders, helpful in diagnosing arthritis, osteoporosis, etc.

Once all relevant data has been collected, the patient presents it to the doctor, who makes a final diagnosis, prescribes therapeutic and rehabilitation measures, and further observes the patient.
